Ummm, did you know that there’s a free way you can earn cash back (up to 40%) when you shop online?! Yes! How? This oldie, but GOODIE….
Tools like THIS is why I now do most of my shopping online. I’ve rediscovered Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates). I signed-up for Rakuten in 2013, but didn’t start consistently using it until 2015. Let’s just say, we’re besties now.
Here are my 2015 results (I told you that, I’ve been on game for QUITE some time):
In a little over a month, I earned $31.13 IN CASH, by buying what I was already going to purchase online:
– Web Services from GoDaddy
– A copy order for my business from Staples
– A gift for a friend from Harry & David
– My Birthday Vacation from Groupon. (Libras in the house! Woot Woot!)
With these purchases, I remembered to go to Rakuten first. I actually got a refund on my birthday trip and repurchased it again via Groupon’s link on Rakuten, just so I could earn my cash back. I’m so Budgetnista. Lol!
Here’s how Rakuten works:
Step 1: Sign-up for a free account here: http://thebudgetnistablog.com/rakuten.
Step 2: Click the JOIN NOW button on the top of the page.
Step 3: That’s it! Now you’re ready to earn up to 40% cash back on your online purchases.
Wait, don’t be like me…. I had Rakuten for a FULL YEAR and forgot to take advantage of it. Put a sticky note on your computer that says, “Remember to use Rakuten.”
And Every. Single. Time you shop online, go to Rakuten before you buy, look for the store you’re buying from, click on the store’s logo, make your purchase and earn your cash back. It’s just that simple.
**** NEVER MISS A CHANCE TO EARN CASH BACK ****
If you really want to be serious about your coins, add the Rakuten Cash Back Button browser extension and activate Cash Back while you shop! This simple add-on allows you to apply Rakuten coupons and promo codes at checkout with ONE-CLICK. Follow the video below for directions.
You can get your money in TWO main ways:
1) A check mailed to your house. (No judgment, some of us like to keep it old school).
2) Or, via PayPal
I opted to get my money via Paypal. Woot woot! I’m going to put in my Money Bucket (my online only, savings account), since I’ve already set aside my monthly budget. What will you do with your cash back?
Are YOU ready to earn cash back on things you were going to buy anyway online? It’s a win-win-win.

My Lisa Rule: I have 4 sisters and Lisa is the baby (we’ll she’s not a baby anymore). Of all of my sisters I’m the most protective over her. Before I share any product or service with you, it must pass my Lisa Rule.
What’s the Lisa Rule? If I would not advise Lisa to use a product or service, I won’t advise you to. YOU are my Lisa. I feel protective over you and your financial journey.
Rakuten passes my Lisa Rule. Yes, I am an affiliate of Rakuten, and I earn a commission off of referrals, but I would not recommend a product or service that I didn’t believe was helpful and useful.
I absolutely loveeeeee E-bates. So far I receive $91+ in cash back.
When I first started to use it, I could never remember to login through e-bates then go to my store through e-bates. But they later released the e-buttion. You can download and regularly go to your store and then the e-bates button flashes red to let you know you could be earning money and green to show it is active.
1) I got $35 cashback for buying my contacts and $glasses (America’s Best)
2) Hotel stays! With Holiday Inn I got back $10 collectively from a few stores
3) Like regular price point airline tickets through regular airline websites. Then go to e-bates through Hotwire, Priceline, etc. to get cashback that way and the price is still the same. (Doesn’t always apply but worth the effort!)
Yes! A woman after my own heart Bianca! I loooove Ebates too.
Happy savings. 🙂
I love Ebates as well. I’ve too have received $100-plus on shopping through Ebates. I love that you can add their icon to your Chrome browser so you don’t forget to use them with shopping.
Me too Lisa!
What online savings account do you recommend, please?
I love saving and getting money back, will I be able to use ebates as well as my travel site that gives me rewards for shopping so that I can earn travel?
I love Ebates, being apart of the Live Richer Challenge has helped me tremendously!!!!
